Fiction
Sixpence, Inc. considers unsolicited submissions of works of fiction. Please keep in mind when choosing whether to submit your work to us that we are a small independent publishing house with a small editorial staff and a list of titles already scheduled for publication; therefore, it is extremely rare that we are able to accept an unsolicited work for publication.
Sixpence, Inc. is currently focusing on fiction by American authors and fiction in translation. We look for strong writing, an original approach, and intelligence in concept and execution. For poetry and children's books, please see the special guidelines for those categories. We are not interested in considering genre fiction (formula romances, westerns, science fiction), fiction for young adults, or works dealing with the occult or paranormal.
You will never go wrong with us by first submitting a query letter with a self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE). Query letters should include a brief description of your submission, your writing credentials and copies of any reviews, and any experience, professional or otherwise, relevant to your submission. For manuscript submissions, a sample of the work (usually the first three chapters) will usually suffice, along with a cover letter that includes your writing credentials, reviews, etc, as above.
Submissions and queries without a SASE will not be returned or answered.
We do not track receipt of submissions. If you would like confirmation that your materials have been received, please include a self-addressed, stamped postcard with your submission. This postcard will be returned to you before your submission is evaluated, as proof that your submission was received.
Please follow the general guidelines for all submissions on the previous page, especially as regards formatting and submission of your best work in final form.
Sixpence, Inc. takes no responsibility for the loss or damage of submitted materials. Please do not submit original artwork or manuscripts. Never submit irreplaceable materials.
We do not accept simultaneous submissions. All submissions must be exclusive to Sixpence, Inc.
Please be advised that Sixpence, Inc. evaluates all submissions we receive, and this evaluation process typically takes four months to six months from the date of submission.
PLEASE NOTE: These guidelines are for informational purposes only and do not constitute a solicitation of any manuscript, artwork, transparencies, or other material. Submission of any unsolicited materials shall be done at the author/illustrator's own risk of loss or damage.
